Inside the UNFCCC

Current Opportunities to Participate

RINGO Co-focal point Beth Martin attending a COP meeting on behalf of the RINGO Constituency

Throughout the year there are opportunities for constituencies to participate in the UNFCCC process outside of COPs and SB intersessional meetings. RINGO members can participate in their own observer capacity or in a more formal, representational role.

UNFCCC constituted bodies that typically invite RINGOs to observe include: Adaptation Committee (AC); Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN); Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage (WIM Excom); Katowice Committee of Experts on the Impacts of the Implementation of Response Measures (KCI); Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP); Paris Committee on Capacity Building (PCCB); Standing Committee on Finance (SCF); Technology Executive Committee (TEC).

RINGO members serve in a more formal role on TEC task forces and on the CTCN Advisory Board.  Current RINGO members serving in these roles are:

All calls for observing a constituted body meeting are sent to all subscribers to the RINGO listserv. Typically there are a limited number of spaces available, so RINGO runs a competitive application process for each meeting. For current calls for nominations to a constituted body meeting, please see the calendar below. Calendar links provide information, like a description of the constituted body meeting and relevant application forms, and deadlines (the same information sent out via our listserv). Please be sure to submit both the RINGO application and the UN registration form to tracy@ringofocalpoint.org. DO NOT submit an application directly to the UNFCCC. The Secretariat will reject it and direct you back to your RINGO CFPs.

Selected nominees are notified by email.  To see the list of attendees and notes from meetings when available, please visit meeting notes.

Criteria for Participation

When making a selection, the RINGO Steering Committee considers expertise, reasons for wanting to participate, and information on how the individual plans to report back to the RINGO membership. It is expected that selected RINGO representatives will attend the meeting in person; applicants should understand that we cannot replace representatives easily and so their decision to accept nomination yet not attend prevents others from participating. The RINGO Steering Committee wants you to know that Steering Committee members who apply do not participate in the selection process.

Below you’ll find the specific selection criteria that you should address in your statement of interest:

  1. Priority will be given to RINGO members who have already been nominated by our constituency to attend a constituted body meeting or serve on a task force or other working group.
  2. Preference will be given to members who have followed the work of the particular constituted body. This can be demonstrated by having attended meetings in person or watched the webcasts of previous meetings, and by familiarity with webpages and documents published by the body.
  3. Other background in the topics addressed by this group will be taken into account, such as specific and documented research or practical expertise. An intent to do future work in this area will also be considered.
  4. Preference will be given to members from developing countries who are interested in doing work in the field.
  5. Preference will also be given to members who are not seeking an invitation from another constituency.
